The updates build on previous legislation and work to create greater transparency within the marketplace.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced updates to regulations surrounding healthcare pricing and coverage. Building on healthcare price transparency rules established during President Trump’s first term, the updates clarify in- and out-of-network pricing and strengthen accountability for complete and accurate published data.
Group health plans and insurance issuers will also be required to provide customers with personalized cost-sharing information by phone. HHS intends these updates to increase transparency in the healthcare marketplace to help consumers make more informed decisions.
“Greater transparency drives competition, reduces price disparities, and helps lower healthcare costs, a key priority for the Trump Administration,” said Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. “People should know what their health insurance will cover and what they will need to pay before receiving medical care, not after the bill arrives.”
